RPA Consultancy Services

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) is the organisation behind Dublin’s Luas - the exceptionally successful Light Rail system which has become a model for other cities to follow. RPA provides consultancy services in the area of Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro and allied activities.

These services have already been received very favourably by the market. RPA is involved as sub-consultant in the award winning Bybanen LRT (Bergen, Norway), taking on the track design for a new line and the core of the design for a new depot.

In addition design services to the Utrecht LRT (Netherlands) are also being provided.

RPA will deliver unique benefits to the client:

  • We understand how to plan, design and deliver successful urban transit schemes that integrate seamlessly in the urban environment and are chosen by the public
  • We know how to successfully manage all aspects of public transit projects, from concept through to supervision of operations thus covering the whole life of the system
  • We are a niche consultant and focus on the disciplines that are essential to make LRT  a success with particular emphasis on disciplines that involve critical decisions.

Through the skills and processes that RPA developed since 2001 Luas has become a showcase LRT and is regularly visited by industry insiders keen to replicate its success. Passenger numbers have exceeded even the most optimistic forecast from the first year of operation and have remained high even during a deep recession. Because of this success support for LRT in Ireland is strong. Three new extensions have been added on since the system opened in June 2004. Now work has started on “Luas Broombridge” which is a further 7 km extension to Luas in the heart of Dublin city.
