ITS and Commercial Transport Operators

ITS and Commercial Transport Operators

The integrated ticketing scheme (ITS) is open to transport operators who provide public transport services within the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), or services that begin or terminate in the GDA.

The intention of the scheme is to provide transport users with an easy way to pay for their travel into and around Dublin, using Dublin Bus, Irish Rail, Luas, and Bus Éireann services, as well as a range of private transport operators such as coach and bus companies. Therefore, customers will be able to use a single Smart Card to pay for the services of different transport operators.

Eligible private coach and bus operators are invited to join the scheme. There is no charge for joining the scheme, although there will be costs per month for the necessary services associated with membership of the scheme. In addition, RPA is in the process of procuring new ticket machines for use in ITS that will be made available free of charge to eligible private coach and bus operators that join the scheme. Funding for these machines is limited and will be allocated to eligible transport operators on a first come first served basis; therefore, interested transport operators are encouraged to register their interest before the end of 2010.

Private coach and bus companies are represented on the Integrated Ticketing Board, by Gerry Mullins, Chief Executive of the Coach Tourism & Transport Council. If you are interested in joining, or have further questions on the scheme, please contact him directly:
