RPA continually aims to improve Dublin’s Luas Light Rail System by investing carefully in minor and major projects that result in a better quality tram service for all commuters. RPA has invested by converting all 26 Alstom 301 trams to 401 trams. These tram extensions have taken place over the last 2 years with the net result of increasing capacity by approximately 40 percent on the Luas Red Line.
At the same time RPA has introduced internal modifications to its Luas Trams with Spider Bars in the central standing areas therefore increasing passenger safety and comfort. We have also added Tip-Up seating on all newly extended trams on the Red Line and on existing Green Line Trams, again increasing comfort and safety for passenger as well as allow the system to carry more people.
RPA continues to invest in Luas Stops to improve customer experience of Luas. Other works have been carried out on Luas to improve the system for users and people living near either of the two lines, including noise reduction measures. We are committed to this for the good of the whole community.
In 2007 RPA signed a deal with Alstom for the delivery of 26 new trams with the first due in late February 2009.
Park and Ride facilities are available on both Red and Green Luas lines. Recently opened are Tallaght Cross Park and Ride facility on the Red Line and Beacon South Quarter close to Stillorgan Stop on the Green Line
On the Luas Green Line at the depot in Sandyford 4 new tram stabling lines will be added to accommodate the 12 extra trams as part of Luas Line B1 (Sandyford to Cherrywood) extension.
