Luas Line A1 Granted Railway Order by An Bord Pleanála
RPA has been granted a Railway Order by An Bord Pleanála for the construction and operation of Luas Line A1, which will extend the existing Luas Red Line from Belgard to Saggart.
Luas Line A1 was the first RPA project for which a Railway Order was sought under the new statutory framework introduced by the Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) Act 2006
RPA consulted with An Bord Pleanála in relation to the proposed line and submitted a Railway Order Application in December 2007. Following the display period of the draft Railway Order Application and accompanying documents, an Oral Hearing was held on the 11th March 2008 in An Bord Pleanála Offices, Marlborough Street and was concluded in one day. A Railway Order was made by An Bord Pleanála on the 16th June 2008 provides RPA with the powers necessary to construct, operate and maintain the line.
The Railway Order documentation is available to view at RPA offices in Parkgate Street or by going to Luas Line A1 Railway Order Page
RPA will now implement construction plans for Luas Line A1. This will include procurement of specialist contract service providers for Utility, Ground and Track to bring the extension up to pre-operational standards. Following operational testing it is intended to begin customer services on the line in early 2011.
Luas Line A1 is the proposed extension of the Luas Red Line (Connolly - Tallaght) to Saggart, east of Garter Lane. It will serve existing communities and developments underway and planned between the existing Luas Red Line and Saggart including Citywest.
The proposed line is a Public Private Partnership Initiative with the support of RPA, South Dublin County Council and property developers.
Luas Line A1 is part of the Government’s Transport 21 investment programme.
