Final Piece of Track Welded on Luas Cherrywood

At 10:00am on Wednesday, 5th May 2010, members of the  Railway Procurement Agency and Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County Council were on site as the last piece of Railway Track was welded by RPA Contractors on new Luas Cherrywood Extension to Luas Green Line at new Brewery Road Luas Bridge Sandyford.

Cllr Marie Baker , Cathaoirleach of Dunlaoghaire Rathdown and Frank Allen CEO, RPA , attending the final weld which took place on the new LUAS bridge in Sandyford; part of the 7.5km LUAS extension to Cherrywood which is due to open later this year.

This is a major milestone in the delivery of Luas Cherrywood as it concludes all track laying activities for the full length of the 7.5 km line from Sandyford to Brides Glen including all bridges, integrated and segregated areas.

On hand for the final track weld was Dun-Laoghaire-Rathdown Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Marie Baker who assisted in the last rail weld on Line B1, the new 7.5km Luas extension which will link Sandyford with Brides Glen.

Luas Cherrywood will extend the existing Luas Green Line (St. Stephen’s Green to Sandyford) to Bride’s Glen. This extension is due to open later this year.

Luas Cherrywood Line B1 is part of the Government’s Transport 21 investment programme.
