Project Overview Luas Line B2
Luas Bray/Fassaroe is an extension of the Luas Green Line from the end of Luas Line B1 from Brides Glen to Bray/Fassaroe.
This extension is about nine kilometres long with proposed stops at Stonebridge, Crinken, Old Connaught, Thornhill, Fassaroe (with Park and Ride), Corke Abbey, Ravenswell and Bray DART. Stops are also being considered at St Columcille's and Wilford subject to development and access improvements in the surrounding area.
This line will require substantial non-exchequer funding, including supplementary development contribution schemes, other conditions of planning permission and agreements with third parties. The strong support of the three relevant local authorities is essential to achieving a funding structure that would result in project approval and implementation.
Luas Bray/Fassaroe is part funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

Following preliminary studies in August 2006 RPA launched public consultation on route options for Luas Line B2. RPA outlined the criteria used in selecting the best overall route option for Luas Line B2.
The responses from public consultation were one of the factors taken into consideration when selecting the best overall route. Other considerations include the environment, economics, safety, integration and accessibility.
Having selected the best overall route option based on a number of criteria including public consultation, RPA in this phase focuses on more detailed design. This includes identifying the precise location of the tracks, platforms, access arrangements, bridges, walls, power supply sub-stations and other structures.
To get permission to build and operate Luas Line B2, RPA will submit a Railway Order Application to An Bord Pleanála. This may be followed by an oral hearing. An Bord Pleanála will decide whether to grant a Railway Order to RPA and may impose certain conditions.
At this phase, RPA contractors and sub-contractors will begin to physically construct the approved light rail line.
Once operational Luas line B2 will become integrated into the rest of the Luas Green Line, with the contracted Luas Operator running services over the whole line. Throughout the contract between RPA and the operator, RPA will continually monitor all operational activities on the line, as we do on existing Red and Green Luas Lines.
