POWER SYSTEM WORKS
The overhead cables which provide power for the Cherrywood Green Line extension are live. The team is about to reach anothermilestone with the completion of the installation of the control, communications and electrical systems.
To facilitate the link-up of the new Cherrywood extension with the Green line a few service changes at Sandyford, Stillorgan andKilmacud Stops are required. Passenger information will be posted on www.luas.ie and advertised on the relevant stops.
10-11 JULY 2010 SERVICE CHANGE LUAS GREEN LINE
Sandyford, Stillorgan and Kilmacud Stops will be closed until 10am on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July 2010 to facilitate power and systems works of the Luas Green Line extension to Cherrywood. A bus service will operate between these stops and Balally Stop during these closures. Luas will operate normally between Balally and St. Stephen’s Green. A valid Luas ticket is required to travel on this bus. RPA and its contractors would like to thank you for your co-operation.
LUAS TESTING WATCH OUT FOR THE TRAMS!!
From mid-July the systems testing phase will commence for the new Cherrywood extension. This will involve the movement of tramsbetween Sandyford and Brides Glen Stop on a regular basis. Thereare no passengers allowed on the Luas during this test phase.

GENERAL TRAFFIC RULES ALONG THE GREEN LINE EXTENSION B1 SANDYFORD – BRIDES GLEN
FOR VEHICLES
- When turning right, please note trams approaching from behind or from ahead.
- When entering onto a road near the Luas system, please watch for trams approaching from either direction.
- Please respect the right of way of the tram.
- Yellow junction boxes, car parks entrances, drive ways and emergency vehicle routes must be kept clear at all times.
- Please adhere to all road and tram, traffic signalling and road signs.
FOR BICYCLES
- Do not cycle in tram lanes.
- Please adhere to all road and tram traffic signalling and road signs.
- Please take time to stop, LOOK LEFT AND RIGHT, and listen for horns and warning bells from approaching trams before crossing.
- When crossing the tracks : Please pay attention to cross the tracks as close to a right angle as possible to avoid thebicycle wheel getting caught in the Luas tracks.
- Prepare to cross well in advance and take time to cross.
- Please be alert in wet and icy weather. Tram tracks can be slippery.
FOR PEDESTRIANS
- Please adhere to all road and tram traffic signalling and road signs.
- Please take time to stop, LOOK LEFT AND RIGHT, and listen for horns and warning bells from approaching trams before crossing.
- Please take special care when wearing headphones or while using mobile phones as they may distract you.
- Please use the designated pedestrian crossing points at the stops and junctions correctly.
- Please stay clear of overhead electricity cables.
TRACK AND CIVIL WORKS
Sandyford to Central Park
The reinstatement works for the Sandyford Park & Ride is ongoing. When complete the carpark will cater for fifty cars. Theconstruction of the electrical substation access road at the bridge podium in Central Park is nearing completion.
Glencairn to Murphystown
The construction of the new Murphystown Road adjacent to the new Luas track has commenced. These works are beingcarried out by a contractor on behalf of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
Ballyogan Road
The junction signalling along Ballyogan Road is nearing completion and testing of traffic signals has started. Temporary signage will be put in place as and when required to alert road users of changing traffic situations. In the interest of health and safety, please obey all traffic signals and signs.
Carrickmines to Brides Glen
The pedestrian access ramp and final surfacing works near Carrickmines stop will be completed over the coming weeks.Landscaping between Carrickmines and Brides Glen will be completed shortly.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The overhead cables and poles are now live. As with the existing system, power for Luas comes from overhead cables. You are reminded for your own safety to keep clear of the cables and poles.
Please note that whilst the works are now nearing completion, most of the new line still remains a construction site. It is essential that members of the public do not trespass on or around the new track and equipment.
Please also note that once we start the testing phase, access to the new system will only be at designated areas and in certain sections it will be an offence to trespass. Please respect all signage and fencing for your own safety and wellbeing.
