The emerging preferred route for Luas Cherrywood was selected by RPA in January 2001. Luas Cherrywood will extend the existing Luas Green Line from Sandyford Stop to a new terminus at Brides Glen Stop. The line will facilitate the achievement of land use objectives developed by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
Starting from the current Green Line terminus at Sandyford Stop Line B1 will run southward serving Central Park and the cross the M50 Motorway to reach and run along Ballyogan Road. Line B1 will then cross the M50 again to reach the Old Harcourt Street Railway cutting just west of Glenamuck Road and will follow the old railway alignment through lands which are being developed are to be developed to reach Cherrywood and Bride’s Glen south of the Wyattville Road Extension.
Luas Cherrywood will extend the existing Luas Green Line (St. Stephen’s Green to Sandyford) to Bride’s Glen.
Luas Cherrywood will serve 9 new Luas Stops and will facilitate the achievement of Land Use Objectives developed by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The estimated journey time between Sandyford Stop and Brides Glen Stop is 20 minutes. The stops at Brennanstown and Racecourse are future stops.
Stops are located at Central Park, Glencairn, The Gallops, Leopardstown Valley, Ballyogan Wood, Carrickmines, Laughanstown, Cherrywood and Brides Glen.
The line will link with the Luas Green Line at the Sandyford Stop and terminate at the Brides Glen Stop.
Luas Cherrywood is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative and is part funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
