During this phase of the Luas Broombridge (Line BXD) project, RPA contractors and sub-contractors will begin to construct the approved light rail line based on detailed design drawings and the Railway Order as made. The works include the realignment of utilities, construction of the required substations, trackbed and track laying, Luas stops and associated access arrangements, bridge works, the erection of overhead power supply lines and landscaping.
RPA will ensure that all works necessary for the operation of the proposed Luas line will be completed in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance to the terms and conditions of the approved Railway Order. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption while making good progress towards the commissioning of passenger services.
Construction of Luas Broombridge (Line BXD) will be subject to a programme agreed between RPA and its contractors. Whilst developing the construction programme for the proposed Luas line, careful consideration will be given to the overall time frame and programming of other construction projects in the city centre area, including RPA sponsored projects such as Metro North, so as to ensure a coordinated approach to implementation.
As part of the construction strategy being adopted for Luas Broombridge (Line BXD) it is proposed that elements of the infrastructure be constructed as part of the reinstatement works associated with Metro North, which will precede the implementation of Line BXD. Locations where this is planned include St. Stephen’s Green West and North, Westmoreland Street and O’Connell Street Lower. This will avoid a situation whereby BXD works would require subsequent undoing of some of the Metro North works at these locations.
When construction of the line is finished and before passenger services begin RPA will carry out extensive pre-launch testing of Luas Broombridge (Line BXD) and the trams which will run on it.
