Luas Citywest Construction Update No.8
Installation Of The Electrical Systems
The installation of the electrical systems on Luas Citywest, the extension of the Luas Red Line from Belgard to Saggart, is now complete.
Tram Testing Starting
Test running of Luas trams on the extension of the Luas Red Line to Saggart will begin during the first half of April 2011 and continue over the coming months. For safety reasons, passengers are not allowed to board the trams during this testing phase.

Pedestrian Safety

- Watch out for trams
- Look both ways before crossing
- Listen for horns and warning bells
- Remember headphones and mobile phones may distract you
- Use designated pedestrian crossings or safe pedestrian routes to cross tramway
- Stay clear of the 750 Volts overhead electricity cables
Cyclist Safety

- Watch out for trams
- Don’t cycle in tram lanes
- Watch out for the groove of the track and always cross at an angle
- Prepare to cross well in advance and take your time
- Use hand signals when crossing the tracks
- Be alert in wet and icy weather as tram tracks can be slippery
- Obey all signs, signals and road markings
- Be Safe & Be Seen - Wear high-visibility clothing
Vehicle Safety

- Watch out for trams
- Look both ways at junctions and when turning
- Don’t drive in tram lanes
- Don’t block the path of trams
- Don’t block a yellow box
- Don’t break red lights or gamble on orange lights.
- Get familiar with new road markings and signs displayed below
- Obey all signs, signals and road markings

Construction Ongoing
While construction work on Luas Citywest is now almost complete most of the new line still remains a construction site. Until all testing is complete members of the public are not permitted to trespass on or around the construction site.
Electrical Systems Now Live
The overhead and ground level electricity cables on Luas Citywest are live. For your safety keep clear of the cables and poles.

Coming Soon

The new extension of the Luas Red Line to Saggart will start passenger services in Summer 2011. We look forward to welcoming you on board!
Health and Safety
Contractors will take all reasonable steps to ensure that inconvenience is kept to a minimum. At the same time, contractors must, in everybody’s interest, ensure that good progress is made with the work in hand.
Maintaining our excellent safety record will be given top priority and we ask everybody who may live or visit or pass through areas where Luas construction work is underway to help us to ensure that nobody gets hurt.
