This is the first stage in the process of developing Luas Lucan (Line F).
On Thursday the 27th of September 2007 the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey TD, with RPA Chief Executive, Frank Allen, announced possible route options for Luas Line F to Lucan. This marked the start of public consultation focusing initially on selecting the best overall route.

After studies of possible routes for Luas Line F, RPA identified two main route options.
- Route Option 1 runs from Lucan Village via Liffey Valley, Ballyfermot, Kylemore Park, Inchicore and Kilmainhan to Dublin City Centre.
- Route Option 2 runs from Newcastle Road in Lucan via Rowlagh, Collinstow Park, Parkwest and Kylemore Park to link up with the existing Luas Red Line as far as Fatima where is continues to Saint Stephen’s Green in Dublin City Centre.
- Various Sub-Options have also been identified below.

Luas Line F Option 1
This route starts in Lucan Village at Lucan Village Stop between Lucan Road and Sarsfield Park. It runs beside Lucan Road in the wooded park area to Old Hill Road junction and then along Lucan Road to Lucan Road Stop near St. Edmundsbury Hospital.
The route continues to Ballydowd Junction turning to run beside the Outer Ring Road crossing the N4 (Lucan Bypass) on a new bridge. From here it turns into Ballyowen Road to Ballyowen Park Stop near the park.
Running along St. Loman’s Road Luas Line F interchanges with proposed Metro West at Quarryvale Stop near the Fonthill Road Junction.
The route continues through Liffey Valley Town Centre where two stops may be located Liffey Valley Town Centre West Stop and Liffey Valley Town Centre South Stop.
From Liffey Valley Town Centre the route runs along Coldcut Road and crosses the M50 on a new bridge and continues to Cherry Orchard Hospital Stop on Ballyfermot Road.
On Ballyfermot Road there will be a stop located near the Community & Health Centre, Blackditch Stop. The route then continues along Ballyfermot Road to Ballyfermot Village Stop before turning onto Kylemore Road and runs to Kylemore Park Stop. From Kylemore Park the route turns to run beside the Grand Canal to Tyrconnell Road. Luas Line F will interchange at Tyrconnell Stop with the existing Luas Red Line Blackhorse Stop.
The route continues along Tyrconnell Road to the junction with Emmet Road to Inchicore Village Stop. It then runs along Emmet Road to Kilmainham Stop located close to the junction with South Circular Road.
Running along Old Kilmainham Road and Mount Brown to St. James’s Hospital Luas Line F will interchange again with the existing Luas Red Line at a second stop for St. James’s Hospital. The route then runs on the existing Luas Red Line track along James’s Street as far as Steeven’s Lane before separating to run along Thomas Street to Meath Street Stop.
From Meath Street Luas Line F will run along Cornmarket Street, High Street and Christchurch Place to Christchurch Stop on Lord Edward Street. It then continues along Dame Street to Trinity Stop at Trinity College. Luas Line F will then connect to the proposed Luas City Centre Link (Luas Line BX) at College Green.

Luas Line F Option 2
Route Option 2 starts at Newcastle Road Stop located in the sports ground close to Superquinn Shopping Centre and Lucan Community College. The route will run along Esker Road to Griffeen Valley Park Stop serving the Sports Centre continuing along Griffeen Road to Castle Riada Stop.
From Castle Riada Stop the route will run just south of Castle Riada crossing the Outer Ring Road to Newlands Road then to Rosse Court Stop beside the Training & Education Centre. Luas Line F continues along Lucan Newlands Road interchanging with proposed Metro West at Rowlagh Stop near the Fonthill Road.
Luas Line F Option 2 then runs through Collinstown Park to Collinstown Park Stop crossing the M50 on a new bridge running onto Wheatfield Stop. It will then continue along Cedar Brook Avenue to Parkwest Avenue Stop to interchange with the proposed Kildare Railway Line at Parkwest Station.
Route Option 2 continues along Parkwest Road to Parkwest Stop and on to Kylemore Park Stop on Kylemore Road. It then turns to run beside the Grand Canal to Tyrconnell Road linking up with the existing Luas Red Line at Blackhorse Stop. The route continues along the existing Luas Red Line via Drimnagh Stop, Goldenbridge Stop, Suir Road Stop and Rialto Stop to Fatima Stop.
Separating from the existing Luas Red Line after Fatima Stop, the route then runs along Marrowbone Lane to Marrowbone Lane Stop. It then runs to Coombe Stop and continues along Dean Street and Kevin Street to Kevin Street Stop near the junction with Bride Street.
Luas Line F Route Option 2 continues via Cuffe Street to St. Stephen’s Green to interchange with City Centre transport services. It then runs around St. Stephen’s Green with St. Stephen’s Green East Stop and St. Stephen’s Green South Stop located on the east and south sides of the green before linking back to Cuffe Street.

Luas Line F Sub-Option A
Sub-Option A will run from a possible Esker Meadow Stop located after Griffeen Valley Park Stop on Route Option 2 to link up with Route Option 1 between Ballyowen Stop and Quarryvale Stop. Additional stops at Castle Road at Droim na Coille will be provided.
Luas Line F Sub-Option B
Sub-Option B will run from a point between Liffey Valley Town Centre South Stop and Cherry Orchard Stop on Route Option 1 to link up with Route Option 2 between Collinstown Stop and Wheatfield Stop.
Luas Line F Sub-Option C
Sub-Option C will run from Wheatfield Stop on Route 2 to link up with Route 1 between Cherry Stop and Blackditch Stop.
Luas Line F Sub-Option D
Using Sub-Option C Route 2 will run on the existing Luas Red Line after Fatima Stop to James’s Stop to link up with Route Option 1 at St. James’s Hospital.
Luas Line F Sub-Option E
Sub-Option E will run from Route 1 after Meath Street Stop to link up with Route Option 2 between The Coombe and Kevin Street.
Stops, Interchanges, Depots and Park & Ride
Stops will be located at major town centres and interchanges. The stops on the map and described above are indicative stop locations and names.
RPA hopes to provide Interchanges with the Kildare Railway Line, Metro West and as many City Centre transport services as possible, including Luas Red Line, Luas Green Line, Metro North and the Irish Rail Interconnector.
A possible Park & Ride location is indicated on the map.
A Depot may be required for Luas Line F; possible Depot locations are indicated on the map.
