Landscape Architectural Design Policy (Goals)
Architectural design input into the project and the desired impact on the finished system and ‘Luas Brand’ should be consistent with the following:
- The provision of a functional, safe and pleasant environment for public transport users and for other citizens adjacent to and affected by the alignment;
- To design a system which is accessible to all and with due regard for people with mobility and sensory impairments;
- The design shall be in sympathy with their surroundings and in keeping with the proper planning and development of the area;
- To encourage alignment designs which are respectful of existing historical and architectural heritage;
- To maintain a simple, modern and sleek architectural and engineering language which is consistent and recognisable throughout the system – including future extensions – but which takes account of the surrounding context and adapts accordingly, where appropriate;
- To develop systems that use sustainable and maintainable materials and minimise life cycle costs without compromising the aesthetics;
- To liaise with the relevant local authorities, professional and state bodies and local agencies in order to minimise disruption, co-ordinate programmes and enhance the quality of the work at all stages;
- To develop efficient and sensible intermodal transfers at key interchange points;
- To provide urban design framework plans, addressing the architectural, civic and financial possibilities of various ancillary sites allowing for their appropriate development;
- To ensure that interventions associated with the implementation of light rail and other infrastructure projects enhance the environment and contribute positively to the civic life of the city.
