The amended Railway Order application process provides that a single application is made to An Bord Pleanála for all railway works associated with the construction and operation of railway development. These works are likely to include, for instance, the railway lines, platforms, substations, depots, park and ride facilities and any other works associated with the development of the railway. The railway order thus operates as a type of planning permission. It also confers a power to Compulsorily Purchase referenced lands required for the purposes of developing the railway scheme.
